Like many environment / fuel saving devices these days, they ultimately cost the owner far more money in the long run. AS&G is supposed to ensure you waste less fuel when the car is stationary and for new cars to meet much stricter Euro emission requirements. On paper this works. The problem, as you have found out, is that the battery required for any AS&G car needs a much higher ampage and therefore attracts a much higher price. Whilst you have a much more powerful battery to meet demands, you will also have a more powerful starter motor. If this goes at some point, it will also cost much more to replace than a standard non-AS&G car.

So, an AS&G car could save you a few pennies in petrol / diesel, but cost you far more in maintenance. Whenever I consider the running costs for any car these days, MPG is actually someway down the list because the maintenance of these various fuel saving devices is sometimes more than you might save in fuel.

There are 2 batteries for the diesel model, the expensive one is for the AS&G model and the cheaper one for none AS&G models, I was first quoted around £70 for mine until AS&G was mentioned, then it tripled. That was from my dealer.

I had the car plugged in to the diagnostic computer at Mitsubishi in Aberdare today and there were a string of error codes all of which seem to have been caused by the battery failing. The guy there cleared the codes and took the car out for a spin and all seems fine now.

Glad to hear you have a resolution to your problem.

Still waiting for Jennings Middlesbrough to get back to me to explain why my computer shows 7 months to next service and not 12 after my recent service on 31/3/15. I guess I'll wait for ever with Jennings...............................................

All the best
Steve

i have had that............. think it may base the interval from recent use i.e. expects you to cover 9000 miles in 7 months based on recent driving history.
